  Physical features in Malawi
  
 
  • The Great Rift Valley in which Lake Malawi sprawls. Lake Malawi is the third largest lake in Africa, extending 568 kilometres in length and between 16 to 80 kilometres in width.
  • Plains that lie about 600 to 1500 metres above sea level. Most of the major cities of Malawi are located on these plains.
  • Highlands, namely Nyika and Viphya Plateaux in the north, Dedza Mountain and the Kirk Ranges in the centre; Zomba and Mulanje Massif in the south. At 3,050 metres above sea level, Mulanje Massif is the highest in Central Africa.
