H.E. Allan Chintedza | ||
His Excellency Allan Chintedza joined the diplomatic service in July 2021 after being appointed by the President of the Republic of Malawi Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera to be Malawi’s Ambassador to China. In this capacity H.E. Allan Chintedza represents the President, the Government and the people of Malawi to consolidate the bilateral relations with the People’s Republic of China following Malawi’s Foreign Policy and the Vienna Convention. The above appointment is a continuation of his previous position as the economic and technical advisor to the then Vice President of Malawi, the late Dr. Justin Malewezi (2000-2004). Prior to joining the diplomatic service, H.E. Allan Chintedza was instrumental in the establishment of Malawi’s first Civil Society Governance Fund called Tilitonse. In this capacity, he provided organizational leadership and management, supported the overall goals of Tilitonse as a grant making facility for civil society organizations in Malawi, and set its direction by leading and implementing decisions and resolutions adopted by the Tilitonse Board as they related to the Tilitonse programme. Prior to joining Tilitonse, H.E. Allan Chintedza was Chief Director of an 11.6 Million Euro capacity building Programme, under the Official Development Assistance Programme with the Ministry of Finance in South Africa (2006 – 2011). He brings more than 25 years of work experience mostly in development, managing and coordinating large scale poverty eradication Programme both in Malawi and abroad. He began his career in development as a Programme Officer for the United Nations Development Programme in Malawi, and later as the Assistant Resident Representative for the United Nations Capital Development Fund (1986 – 2000). He has served in various other capacities dealing specifically with microfinance issues including inter alia as Deputy Executive Secretary for PRIDE Africa in Nairobi Kenya (2000 -2002) and was instrumental in the establishment of ten village Banks for FINCA Malawi in collaboration with the First Merchant Bank under the DFID, UK Financial Deepening Challenge Fund. In between fixed appointments, H.E. Chintedza has also consulted for donor agencies as team leader for the pre-feasibility study on multi-Annual Indicative Programme (MIP)-EU/South African Government (Treasury), EU/ Swaziland Government on Provision and management of social services and DFID Social Protection Policy in Malawi. H.E. Chintedza holds a Masters of Arts in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration from the University of Malawi (Chancellor College). |
