SADC Day Commemoration in Beijing | ||
On 9th September 2022, Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Embassies in Beijing China commemorated the SADC Day. SADC Day is commemorated on the 17th of August every year marking the establishment of SADC on 17th August 1992 that replaced the Southern African Development Coordination Conference (SADC). This year marks 30 years since the establishment of SADC. His Excellency Allan Chintedza, Ambassador of the Republic of Malawi to the Peoples Republic of China and outgoing Chairperson of the SADC Ambassadors in China delivered opening remarks at the SADC commemoration event in Beijing, China. Ambassador Chintedza echoed the remarks of His Excellency Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, President of the Republic of Malawi that SADC in open for business and is ready for investment; it is a haven and very rich in cultural diversity and mineral resources. Ambassador Chintedza also commended the China for the support it renders to Africa and the SADC region in particular through the FOCAC and BRI. The Guest of Honour, His Excellency Wu Peng, Director General for African Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Peoples Republic of China congratulated SADC Countries on the SADC Day Commemoration and Malawi for successfully completing its Chairmanship of SADC and wished the Democratic Republic of Congo success as the new Chairperson. H.E. Wu Peng said China wishes to enhance mutual support and unity and will promote cooperation in areas including infrastructure resources development, digital economy and climate change with SADC and its member states. Ambassador Chintedza will hand over the chairmanship to His Excellency Francois Nkuna Balumuene, Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Congo to China. | ||
