The good news for you as an investor is that this growing global interest in Malawi’s tourism presents a lot of opportunities for investors who will enter the Malawi tourism market early and grow with it. It will be easier to find more opportunities to realise more profits when you start early and stay in the industry for longer. You will be able to target good market niches for tourism which no one had even realised existed in Malawi.

The Malawi Government will be happy to partner with you to develop Malawi’s tourism potential and has already put in place some incentives to allow you help you realise returns quickly and develop the industry. Some of incentives the government has put in place include exclusive access to invest in hospitality facilities including hotels, motels, guest houses in game reserves, national parks, and the Lake Shore area. You will also have the opportunity to design theme parks and tourist packages both in locally and regionally. Locally, you can link up with investors in other areas to provide an integrated experience for the tourists. More importantly, Malawi is centrally located giving you access to partner with other tour operators in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Mozambique and the Democratic Republic of Congo. You are guaranteed growth if you could use Malawi’s strategic location and unique resources to partner with other investors. The Malawi Government has put extra emphasis on environmentally friend tourism, eco-tourism. Since the Government will grant you exclusive access to invest in areas that have unique naturally resource endowments, you would be expected to comply with certain minimum standards to ensure sustainability, safety, and eco-friendliness. In order for you realise decent returns on your investment, you might wish to consider adopting an integrated approach in investing in tourism in Malawi. You may invest in hotel facilities, theme parks, and other such facilities.

We also recommend pay special attention to the marketing side of your investment. In fact every aspect of your investment should always be focused and oriented towards marketing. Due to Malawi’s abundant untapped natural tourism resources, you should consider investing hospitality facilities at the several places of significance. It will be important to adopt a phased approach where you will start with the critical infrastructure and then expand as grow. You may invest in hospitality structures along Lake Malawi, inside game reserves and national parks, in mountains, forest reserves, and cultural and historical sites such as missionary graves and slave trade villages. You have more opportunities to invest along Lake Malawi. Opportunities for investment include theme parks, water sports and activities, conferences and functions, holiday making, sports, casinos and entertainment centres, and many more. Elsewhere, you will realise good returns if you invested also in wilderness safaris, travel and tours, hotels, camps and lodges, cultural and traditional troupes, and casinos and entertainment.
